Old Potrero Rye Whiskey is a bold homage to the original artisanal whiskeys of America, a testament to the power of the pioneering spirit and the celebrated return of pot-distilled whiskey in the United States. Since 1993, the whiskey has been distilled in small copper pot stills at the San Francisco-based distillery. Credited as the first legal American craft rye whiskey to hit the market since prohibition, Old Potrero recently underwent a complete brand re-launch in 2022, featuring new packaging and bottle design. This limited expression features the newly designed packaging and bottle geared towards today’s contemporary whiskey drinker, who appreciates an excellent dram with an iconic heritage and a modern-day appeal. From Lee Diaz, Topflight Series Panel Member: A rye unlike any other, this Old Potrero Single Barrel Reserve Straight Rye redefines this whiskey category by boasting a 100% malted rye mash bill that is distilled in pot stills in the 7×7, one of my favorite places, San Francisco. Last year, we had the pleasure of meeting the Old Potrero team and came away with love for this brand and an incredible 130.32 proof selection for you to enjoy. The nose is fresh with ripe green apples, honey, cashews, and light malt. This pour is surprisingly complex, evolving with every sip. Most prominently, I discovered flavors such as jams, warm bread, and dark chocolate marzipan. This leads to a long finish that punches the rye grain, white pepper spice, and raisin forward. The decadence within the bottle is matched by its new look on the outside. If you’re familiar with Old Potrero, you’ll also notice that the bottle design and overall look are more fitting of a modern bar than you might have seen before. This is truly something to behold.
